Bold statement ahead

Having heard his statement about changing the constitution to make gay marriage illegal, I have come to a conclusion: the president is being mean. That's right, I said it. Mean. Mean, mean, mean. And there's no reason to be mean.

Birthday reflections

I have got to stop ordering fish on my birthday. It never ends well. There were no scales this year though, just a couple tiny bones. The shrimp were poorly deveined, and the scallops were either over or undercooked, I couldn't tell which.

However, my parents came to visit, my grandma called, as did my brother, my sister and brother in law sent a card, my former roommate phoned, and my fiance's treated me wonderfully all day. While we were out, my future in laws left a nice happy birthday song on the answering machine. It's been a very nice day.

The kittens have been varmints, but sweet ones, for meeting their maternal "grandparents." They were shy at first but warmed up quickly. It's been a nice day.

Happy birthday to me!

I'm no longer 23!
I've got the whole world to see!
I've bruised my left knee!

Um... wow, that rhyme's gonna be harder to do this time next year. (Happy birthday me for, I'm no longer 24?)

Anyway. I've received my first present from my fiance, Nick Cave's book, And the Ass Saw the Angel. I've been wanting it for a long time, and it got reprinted about a year ago. I enjoy the Bad Seeds' music, and Nick Cave has a fascination with the American south, which is where my family's from, and I suppose I have a fascination with his fascination. It's interesting when people are interested in things one takes for granted. The perspective changes.

Poor, poor kittens

Our poor kittens received a bath today, and it was awful. They're curled up in a crate next to the heater drying. There was a lot of whining.

Big Dang Stacka Postcards...

...on my desk at the moment. The kittens got their claws trimmed for the first time today, I came out of it unscathed and they, despite their whining, did as well.

Let's see if I can still say that after they've had their bath tomorrow.

In fairness...

I live in a temperate zone, technically. And I think, by law, that sort of requires something more than a week of spring, a month of summer, a week of fall, and then ten and a half months of winter.

I'm exaggerating, of course, winter started in November this year, but if it runs till May again, I will be irked large. I think it's high time we extended the arctic circle a little lower, you know, to prevent false geographical advertising.

Anyway.

Sorrow.

My mother was sad today, and I couldn't really make her feel better.

Registration Nightmare!!

GAH! Registering for classes has been a nightmare this semester. It's already a week in and my schedule still isn't set.

First, I was going to take Ancient Ethical Theory, but I'm a little out of shape, philosophically, and I wasn't sure if I could compete, so I dropped it in favor of a Library Media class. However, I apparently shouldn't have even been able to register for this library media class, as it is only for those seeking state certification to be library media specialists in the public schools. So I threw myself out.

Then I signed up for History Museums, which sounded really interesting, but for my Dramaturgy class, I have to go to several presentations from the Visiting Writers Program which directly conflict with the History Museums class, which only meets once a week, so it's hardly proper to miss six classes.

So I tried to re-register for Ancient Ethical Theory, but again, shouldn't have been able to register for it in the first place, and I think it would still conflict with the visiting writers presentation. I'm having a devil of a time.

There is, however a way around this, I think. I was operating on the assumption that this class could NOT be theater, and I now have evidence that it can be. So if I can just register for a theater class, I can catch up, and have a wonderful time.

Nonetheless, being a week into the semester without a settled schedule is making me very uncomfortable.

However, our kittens have both found their purrs, Odile's fur is just so thick you have to put your ear to her side to hear it. This is a joy to me. They also found a couple tiny scraps of provolone and they loved it. Odile has also acquired a taste for garlic, apparently, from a bit dropped while I was making pesto.
